A Career in Casino and Gambling

[ English ]

Casino gambling continues to grow in popularity all over the World. With each new year there are cutting-edge casinos getting started in old markets and new venues around the planet.

When most people consider a job in the betting industry they often think of the dealers and casino workers. It’s only natural to look at it this way seeing that those employees are the ones out front and in the public eye. However the casino industry is more than what you are shown on the gambling floor. Wagering has grown to be an increasingly popular enjoyment activity, highlighting advancement in both population and disposable cash. Employment growth is expected in guaranteed and blossoming betting areas, such as vegas, Nevada, and Atlantic City, New Jersey, as well as in other States that may be going to legitimize gambling in the years ahead.

Like nearly every business operation, casinos have workers that will monitor and take charge of day-to-day goings. A number of tasks required of gaming managers, supervisors, and surveillance officers and investigators do not require interaction with casino games and bettors but in the scope of their jobs, they have to be capable of taking care of both.

Gaming managers are responsible for the total operation of a casino’s table games. They plan, develop, direct, control, and coordinate gaming operations within the casino; determine gaming procedures; and select, train, and organize activities of gaming personnel. Because their daily tasks are so variable, gaming managers must be quite knowledgeable about the games, deal effectively with workers and gamblers, and be able to adjudge financial matters that affect casino development or decline. These assessment abilities include checking the P…L of table games and slot machines, knowing factors that are guiding economic growth in the United States and so on.

Salaries will vary by establishment and location. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) numbers show that full time gaming managers earned a median annual wage of $46,820 in 1999. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $26,630, and the highest 10 per cent earned around $96,610.

Gaming supervisors monitor gaming operations and staff in an assigned area. Circulating among the tables, they ensure that all stations and games are manned for each shift. It also is normal for supervisors to interpret the casino’s operating codes for guests. Supervisors can also plan and organize activities for guests staying in their casino hotels.

Gaming supervisors must have leadership qualities and above average communication skills. They need these abilities both to manage workers excellently and to greet patrons in order to establish return visits. Most casino supervisory staff have an associate or bachelor’s degree. Despite their educational background, however, most supervisors gain experience in other wagering jobs before moving into supervisory positions because knowledge of games and casino operations is essential for these workers.
