There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den wagering is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are established in a relatively tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent spot, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel compound that highlights a number of amenities in addition to the gambling hall, which houses ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 tables.
